Shaw

Considered as one of central D.C.’s up-and-coming neighborhoods, Shaw is abuzz with energy from local, independent businesses and its collection of row houses — the archetypal D.C. home.

Although teeming with dining options and nightlife, Shaw was often overlooked by visitors in the past years. Locals have long loved Shaw however, and the neighborhood is undergoing a major renaissance underlined by its strong residential character and tight-knit community. Trust us — it’s a neighborhood you’ll definitely want to visit often or even live in.

Shaw real estate’s most defining feature is its collection of vibrant and colorful row houses that have served as homes of many a generation. Although Federal row houses dominate the local real estate landscape, Shaw also has other housing options to offer.

In the recent years, approximately 10,000 condos and apartments have been added to accommodate the growing number of people who want to live in this cool neighborhood. Growth and re-development are still underway, promising more opportunities in Shaw real estate.

What it’s like living in Shaw

Transportation

Bordered by U Street Corridor, Bloomingdale, Penn Quarter, and Downtown, among others, Shaw is a good location to live in. The White House is just 10 minutes away by public transit, while Georgetown is 14 minutes away. Shaw is also served by the Shaw/Howard University Metro Station at 7th and Rhode Island Avenue. Two airports, Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport are also located nearby.

Nightlife

Considerably more residential than its neighboring communities, Shaw can get a bit sleepy come night time. Still, if you’re looking for a place to hang out and enjoy a cold glass of beer, Shaw has plenty of casual neighborhood bars to choose from. Nellie’s is a favorite, and so are A&D, Chaplin, Lost & Found, and Right Proper.

Dining

There are also good eats to be found in Shaw. Sundevich incorporates global favorites into original creations, sure to delight foodies everywhere. Eat the Rich is a seafood joint known for its fresh oysters and delectable menu. Baby Wale and Corduroy also come highly recommended.
