Petworth

Petworth is a neighborhood located north of Columbia Heights, in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C. Known as one of the largest neighborhoods in the D.C. area, the neighborhood started as a site for two country estates, which were eventually incorporated into the District in the late 1800s. A significant number of brick townhomes were built in the area during the 1920s, serving as homes for many Irish, Polish, and Jewish immigrants.

Today, Petworth is a very vibrant and diverse neighborhood that accommodates a variety of different lifestyles, with its selection of reasonably priced homes, commuter-friendly environment, and superb local establishments.

Residents who love the outdoors will be able to find many “hidden” outdoor havens throughout Petworth. There’s Sherman and Grant Circle, Soldier’s Home and Lincoln’s Cottage, and the grounds of Clark Elementary School, which is considered an unofficial dog park for many dog owners.

Transportation

Petworth is served by eight Metrobus lines, and has the Metro’s Georgia Avenue-Petworth station, which is along the Yellow and Green Lines. The station is conveniently situated in the southern portion of the neighborhood, making it very accessible for many residents.
